About Me

Several years ago, whilst showing sheep at the Great Yorkshire Show, I took an afternoon off and visited the Gardens at Newby Hall.  Although I had had an interest in gardening prior to this visit, Newby sent me home filled with a desire to do more and to know much, much more.

I started gardening much more seriously but found the more I learnt the more there was to learn.  So I decided to go back to college to try and fill in

the massive holes in my knowledge.  I swore blind that I wasn’t going to take the exams.......

I now hold the Royal Horticultural Society’s Advanced Certificate and Diploma in Horticulture and also BTEC National Award in Horticulture - Garden Design (at distinction) and the Certificate in Education.  This latter was as a result of me enjoying learning again so much as a mature student I thought I might be able to pass on some of my enthusiasm to others.

I now practice as a garden designer with both commercial and private clients whilst lecturing part time in gardening, garden design and horticulture at further education level.

Awards

As part of a two man team I won a Silver Gilt Medal for a show garden at Gateshead Spring Flower Show and was part of a bronze medal winning team at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
