A city back garden
This is a small back garden belonging to a Victorian terraced house. The garden sloped steeply towards the house and has a precast concrete garage which, because of the slope, looms over the garden.
The clients had started the garden by having a retaining wall built and a flight of steps started but had got stuck at that point.
They wanted lots of flowering and scented plants, a small patio, some herbs and for the garden to be easier to maintain than it had been.

The garage will soon be hidden by its planting of climbing roses, evergreen clematis, herbaceous clematis, honeysuckle and evergreen honeysuckle. With tall perennials in the highest terrace hiding the base and a small variegated tree in the right hand corner.
The second terrace has a mixture of scented small shrubs, perennials and some taller herbs with the curve of the steps planted with a lavender hedge.
A herb garden surrounds the patio which is bordered by the retaining wall which means easy access for the most used herbs without going up into the garden.
